CAUSE 1: CAPS Lock
You've heard it a million times, but it's still worth a once over to ensure the CAPSLOCK is not activated. Don't depend on the keyboard light to come on, as sometimes they malfunction. Try typing in the "Username" field and see what comes out.
CAUSE 2: Internet Connection
Dont take it for granted that just because you can see this page that your connection is working. Open a new window and try surfing to another page in the same site. Then try a site thats altogether different, like TomOgdenDesign.com. Apple.com has excellent backbone and distributed servers, so you should be able to get them in any Internet weather.
CAUSE 3: Cookies
Cookies MUST be enabled for security to work on your web site. In the past there has been some concern that cookies could be used to compromise your privacy. There is also a good use for cookies. They provide a way for you to verify your own identity from your own computer and prevent outsiders from invading your web site. Thats the primary use for cookies in all our systems.
In Internet Explorer 6.x:
1. Go to the Tools menu and choose "Internet Options...".
2. Click on the "Privacy" tab.
3. Set the slider control to "Medium".
4. Click "Apply" and "OK".
CAUSE 4: Browser Security
Very commonly, your browsers security settings may be set too high. This could cause the browser to reject all pages that have a form or a secure connection (sounds paranoid, doesnt it). The result is that it will say the page "cannot be displayed", or something similar. To check, follow the steps below.
In Internet Explorer 6.x:
1. Go to the Tools menu and choose "Internet Options...".
2. Click on the "Security" tab.
3. Click the button for "Default Level" (usually "Medium").
4. Click "Apply" and "OK".
CAUSE 5: Time & Date
Youre time might be correct, but if the date is wrong, then you wont be able to keep a secure connection. The problem is that the system only allows you to access the site for an hour or two before it automatically logs you off. If your time and date are inaccurate, this could cause the system to log you off no matter what you do.
The system tries to compensate for global time differences, but if you suspect an issue with your time zone, notify us right away.
CAUSE 6: Security Software
Some anti-virus, firewall or security software may have settings that are too stringent or on a level of paranoia. If so, they will provide a way for you to adjust these settings to enable regular Internet activity.
CAUSE 7: Infections
Spyware, viruses or any other infection will cause your system to behave unpredictably. For example, some malicious software might reroute you to a porn site whenever you try to go to a legitimate address. Others will cause your computer and programs to stop or start unexpectedly.
Its a good idea to not only invest in security software but to keep it updatedweekly, if possible.
